Dog Friendly Holiday Cottage
We are not just friendly, we are passionate about dogs! We often travel with Winnie & George and so we really understand what makes a difference to a luxury holiday for the whole family. At Sherwood House, we welcome dogs big and small and we are flexible on the number of dogs in a party. We are also lucky to be positioned right on the coast path and we are a short walk away from Poppit Sands (alias doggie heaven). In every way, we look to provide a V.I.Pup experience and so far we have been rated five paws! Please give us a ring to discuss all your special canine needs.
To give you an idea of our V.I.Pup Experience:
On arrival our V.I.Pups will receive their own welcome pack including;
- Arrival meal (Caesar or similar)
- A bottle of Pawsecco (or similar)
- Special homemade treats
- Teach you dog Welsh book (signed by the author)
- Surprise toy
And All the Essentials;
- Poo Bags
- Towels & Noodle Drying Mats
- Blankets, beds & leads with Sherwood’s address (just in case)
- Water & food bowls.

- Special outdoor Doggy shower area.

- Dog gates (in case you want to keep you dog in a certain part of the house).
- Information about local walks, things to do and places to eat that all welcome your dogs.
- Direct access to the coast path & short walk to Poppit Sands.

For 2020 we have worked in partnership with a local award-winning artist to provide a unique V.I.Pup experience. Either send us a favourite photo of your dog two months prior to your visit and for your arrival, we will have ready an original piece of digital portraiture which can then also be reproduced on mugs, T.Shirts – pretty much whatever you want. Alternatively, if you take a wonderful photo during your holiday we can post you a lasting memento after your visit. You can see an example of Winnie & George reimagined! We are very lucky that St Dogmaels lives up to the name and it is a super dog-friendly village and so is nearby Cardigan, both with lots of lovely places to eat, visit, and things to do including your dogs. Yes, please.
We do ask for your pet’s safety and comfort that you don’t leave them unaccompanied. We can provide the details for local doggy day care and kennel services. Also if your dogs get along with Winnie & George we may be able to look after them for you – give us a call.
The garden and driveway are both gated so well protected from the road. The back of the property is direct onto the Estuary, the decking area is fenced and there is a wall in the lower part of the garden but please do check with us if your dog is tiny, very big and/or a very enthusiastic jumper and we can discuss your specific needs.
We understand happy dogs are often muddy dogs so we have an outside dog wash and provide our special dog towels to dry off before they come in.

Priory Vets (based in Cardigan) are excellent and provide an on-call 24 hours service. Out-of-Hours Emergencies – 01239 612479 (same number during the day).
We provide a dog tag with the address for Sherwood House and our contact number – if we are called we will contact you immediately.
St Dogmael’s Premier shop holds a range of well-known dog food brands. If you are looking for local treats then the St Dogmael’s farmers market sells homemade biscuits by a company called St Dogmeals.
There are lots of local dog friendly beaches including Poppit Sands which is good for human and dog swimming (please check tides, weather and any local information at the beaches before swimming).
Bags and a disposal point are provided.
We do ask that dogs stay off the beds due to the mix of visitors that we receive. However, we do understand that some dogs like cozy spots to curl up on the sofa – so we provide a huge doggy blanket and would ask you to cover anything that your dog fancies snoozing on.
